As mother nature settles into mid winter and the snow deepens around Door County, the temptation to stay wrapped up in blankets and watch movies all day gets stronger. Valentines Day breaks up the long stretch between holidays and offers a diversion and some romance! It’s a perfect reason to visit Door County in the depths of winter and there is fun to be had! While restaurants, sleigh rides, and fireside cuddles are the customary Valentines activities, Sister Bay offers a film festival for those looking for a unique experience.

The Door County Short Film Festival is a community driven event that encourages creative movie making! This is year 10 for the festival taking place on February 15th and 16th in Sister Bay. The festival features films by amateur and professional filmmakers in a short film format. Films may be as short as 2 minutes, or as long as 20 minutes, and all will have meaningful, silly, uplifting, humorous story lines. No downers to spoil a romantic or fun weekend for couples or families! Two Day – All Access Passes are only $10 and come with free popcorn! More information can be found here: http://www.cometosisterbay.com/festivals-and-events/door-county-short-film-fest/

The fun begins Friday, February 15th at 6:30 pm with a cocktail party and film premieres at the Sister Bay Village Hall. The evening wraps up with a feature length premiere from 7:00 pm until 9:30 pm. Saturday, February 16th the fun begins at 1:30 pm with short films from around the world and will run all day with brief intermissions for drinks, pizza, and popcorn, and short presentations and Q&As with attending filmmakers!  The day culminating in the “Golden Mug Award” at 8:00 pm. The coveted mug is a work of art in it’s own right, hand thrown by Gills Rock Pottery mastermind “Thor” Thoreson!

The Waterbury Inn, in North Ephraim, is just 5 minutes from the Sister Bay Village Hall where the Door County Short Film Festival is held. There are still one and two bedroom units available, but they are going fast! Don’t miss out on a unique Valentines weekend experience, you might just find a new favorite tradition (or filmmaker!)
