Maritime Museums

Door County Maritime Museum – Sturgeon Bay
Located along Sturgeon Bay’s working waterfront, this museum showcases the area’s rich maritime heritage. Exhibits include model ships, shipbuilding history, and lighthouse displays. Visitors can also tour the restored 1919 tugboat John Purves and explore the Jim Kress Maritime Lighthouse Tower for panoramic views.
Accessible via a causeway, this iconic 1869 lighthouse offers visitors the chance to climb its 97 steps for stunning Lake Michigan views. The site includes the keeper’s quarters and provides insights into the life of lighthouse keepers.
Situated in the fishing village of Gills Rock, this museum focuses on the area’s commercial fishing industry and maritime history. Exhibits feature shipwreck artifacts, a wooden fishing tug, and a replica net shed.

Door County Historical Museum – Sturgeon Bay

This preserved 1875 Greek Revival farmhouse offers a glimpse into 19th-century life in Door County. Furnished with period pieces, the house reflects the lifestyle of one of Fish Creek’s founding families.
Operated by the Sister Bay Historical Society, this site features 15 restored buildings and exhibits showcasing local history, including a blacksmith shop, schoolhouse, and agricultural displays.

Ahnapee Trail
A 30-mile crushed stone trail that connects Sturgeon Bay with Algoma and Casco. Ideal for hiking, biking, and snowmobiling. Restrooms in Sturgeon Bay and Forestville. Baileys Harbor Ridge This 30-acre park sits along Lake Michigan near The Ridges Sanctuary. Established in 1934, it offers a sand beach, swimming, parking, and toilet facilities.
Located inside Whitefish Dunes State Park, this county park features limestone sea caves, a serene half-mile trail, and abundant bird watching opportunities.
A 5-acre park on Green Bay offering a boat launch, seawall, and dock. Known for excellent fishing. Located north of Namur off County N.
