Not one person in Door County will argue that this Winter has been a bit of a bust. Last year it was -40°F wind chills. This year it’s been above 40°F more days than it’s been below 0°. Neither make for an enjoyable winter experience, but the warmer weather is the bane of outdoor enthusiasts. Icy cross country ski tracks, muddy trails, slushy lake ice…let’s write this one off. Early Spring, anyone?

Let’s look ahead to the fun in the sun that Spring in Door County offers!

The Brown Trout Tournament in Baileys Harbor, April 23-26th, is a good opportunity to get out and catch those fish that were out of reach all winter due to thin ice! If trout aren’t your fish, Sturgeon Bay hosts the Open Bass Tournament May 15-16th. Free Fishing for everyone, state-wide, June 6-7th.

Farmers Markets open around Door County around the second week of May.  Kicking off the produce season May 17th, the Baileys Harbor Farmers Market is the best way to spend a Sunday morning! These community farmers markets compliment the orchards and wineries that have daily hours.

The Door County Half- Marathon and Nicolet Bay 5k kick off the running season Saturday May 2. Enjoy a beautiful run through Peninsula Sate Park. Advance registration is required. If the Half Marathon seems too big, another option is the Blossom Run. Featuring multiple options for the entire family – five-mile run, two-mile run/walk and one-mile youth run – the Door County Y Blossom Run is a great opportunity for individuals and families alike to get out and enjoy the first vestiges of spring.

If you simply want to see what the State Parks have to offer, National Trails Day June 6-7th, offers families and individuals a chance to tour our world class parks for free! This also coincides with Free Fishing Day! A perfect chance to enjoy the sun and worry some fish worms!

The Waterbury Inn will also be unveiling updated bathrooms!! While we know this isn’t as exciting as spring flowers and sunshine, we’re pretty chuffed to bring this improvement to our guests! Book your stay with us today to see what’s new!
